Evolving designs for the dynamic beats duo, Humanoid No More.
Previously, we have profiled the creation of the brand design and initial visuals for this musical/entertainment/pop-art project. Since then, the group has produced new releases and promotional merch. Here then, is an update on their evolving visual journey.
Killer Robots!
The duo’s second EP had the lengthy title, I’m Not Concerned With Your Killer Robot Arms. The downtempo track possessed a groovy but sinister vibe.
The inspiration for the visuals comes from 70s TV shows, the resulting cyborg doll toys, as well as a touch of mystery and intrigue. That blood splatter tells us that perhaps we ought to be concerned after all.
All about Asteroid!
Next came the Asteroid! Asteroid! Asteroid! EP. This one had an exotic, tropic feel. But still, it was a little bit alien in its Drum-and-bass style beat.
Here the visuals include a slightly iridescent red & green wreath lit by intergalactic tiki torches.
What is an Astral Slap?
Astral Slap was the next Humanoid No More release (and quite a funky bit of space dub it was). But where did it come from and what did it inspire? A certain confrontation between “stars” at a cinematic award show might come to mind.
However, we thought of inspirations such as astral projection and how that might be used to reach out and touch someone with the mind. Perhaps there would be some kind of star-based battle-force entrusted with this power. Clearly, this fictional force would need a crest.
All aboard for the Devil’s Planet Beach Club
Devil’s Planet Beach Club is a laid-back groovy track available on the Astral Slap EP. The visual imagery that came to mind with this track demanded creative action. Certainly visitors to such a hot location would require a hat.
After considering design options, technical considerations steered us toward simplicity. We designed the bucket hat, as well as the cap, with unique embroidered art. A sports jersey may be next.
Website Evolution
The content of the group has evolved and grown through the past year. Therefore, the website needed to grow and evolve. We added a music releases page and a live page. Meanwhile, the shop continued to expand its offerings.
We are sure there will be more to report on this exciting project going forward. Stay tuned! Meanwhile, let us know what you think of the project!
